Woman of Air

‘Dance is my life!’ Born in the south of France, raised and trained in Paris, the now 85-year-old ballerina Micheline Faure, who was a successful prima ballerina with John Cranko from 1958 to 1962, decided to have children and thus give up her dancing career. She ran the Salzburg Ballet Studio, taught for many years at the Mozarteum University and took up painting. Pirouettes, dégagés, pas de bourrée, pointe shoes, bloody feet and pain... Micheline Faure's memories run through her body, which is still ethereally light: When she talks, dances across the stage and raises her arms, when she beams, then turns her gaze inward and bows to imaginary applause, one senses the prima ballerina she once was. A body like a balmy summer breeze, a will like the mistral. In her short film, Editta Braun traces the essence of this impressive woman. Historical documents, personal accounts and current film footage, some of which was shot against the breathtaking backdrop of the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg, merge with the sensitive music of Thierry Zaboitzeff and quotations from Tchaikovsky's ‘Swan Lake’ to pay homage to a highly sensitive yet strong-willed woman who has remained a dancer to this day, and not only in her heart. ‘It was just a dream

Director Biography – Editta Braun
* 1958 in Austria, pioneer of contemporary choreography in Austria. Academic degree in Science of Sports and German Language and Literature (University of Salzburg). Studied dance in Paris and New York, 40 years of teaching, including at the University of Salzburg and the Anton Bruckner Private University Linz. Has created more than 30 productions (physical theater, dance) and tours worldwide with her company. Has turned towards experimental short films since 2020. Characteristics: intercultural collaborations, politically engaged, feminist and ecological view on society and arts.
